Whitney & Seth’s Southern Maine Backyard Wedding
Whitney and Seth’s wedding changed many, many times over the course of the summer and fall. First, the date changed from summer to fall. Then, the venue changed, and the guest count shifted, and safety plans tightened, and it wasn’t uncommon to see an email from Whitney in my inbox about the latest changes. Regardless, their wedding, which took place in their beautiful backyard in North Yarmouth, Maine, may not have been their Plan A, but it was lovely and personal all the same. After all, how can a wedding not be unique when it is taking place at your own house?
Whitney prepared with close friends and family at Blind Tiger in Portland, Maine (such an airy boutique inn!) After she finished putting on her stunning dress, we drove to Willard Beach, where we discovered Seth with their very cute pup Caydence. After we took some couples portraits, in which Caydence was most definitely included, we returned to their North Yarmouth home for their ceremony and open air reception. Finally, Whitney and Seth exited their reception via a shower of biodegradable confetti and drove an antique truck to Gather in Yarmouth, where a smaller group of close friends and family shared toasts and dined.
I really felt like part of the family, as I had photographed Whitney’s sister’s North Haven Maine wedding in 2015. It was so much fun to see Ashley, Rod, their two boys (who were most excellent ring bearers), and various other family that I had met at Ashley and Rod’s wedding years ago.
As a final note, from a vendor standpoint, I was so thrilled with Whitney and Seth’s COVID safety measures. Guests were asked to wear masks throughout the ceremony, and when walking around their yard. Everything, save for their dinner, took place outside, and it made me feel so cared for as a vendor to see Whitney, Seth, and their friends and family doing everything in their power to keep their wedding as safe as possible.
