When I asked S what she was most looking forward to on her wedding day during her Portland Maine engagement session, besides marrying M, of course, she mentioned how much she looked forward to seeing the Portland Head Light and having portraits done there. However, a few weeks prior to their wedding I caught wind of the fact that the lighthouse was being painted, and ugly scaffolding had been set up, making one of the most photographed lighthouses into something rather unattractive. We decided to scrap our plan of doing portraits there, but she was having a hard time deciding which other lighthouse she would like to visit during portraits- none of them compared to the Portland Head Light. On the day of their engagement session I stopped by a few local lighthouses so I could evaluate which would be the best portrait location, and decided to stop by the Head Light just to see how the painting was coming along, and lo and behold, the scaffolding had just been taken down that day. What a wedding miracle!
On their wedding day we were faced with rain, but as we doggedly drove to Fort Williams after their ceremony at St. Luke's Cathedral, the rain cleared, and we were left with the prettiest blue skies and waters, lush greenery, and picturesque views of the Portland Head Light. Rain was certainly good luck on their wedding day!
After their portraits, we headed to Grace Restaurant, where S and M met their friends and family for their reception and spiritedly enjoyed food, drink, and each other.
While the vendor team was amazing, I need to give a shout out to Wendy Caron of Dragonfly Services. Wendy is an amazing day-of-coordinator who strives to be both a calming presence while taking charge of the situation when anything is running behind. She's a must if you don't want to worry about handling everything on your wedding day!
