Elise & Jason’s Sugarloaf Maine Wedding

Elise and Jason’s Sugarloaf wedding was projected to be a little bit rainy, and when I arrived to Elise’s getting ready location, it was raining on and off. The forecast looked like it would improve at ceremony time, and I told her that I wouldn’t be surprised if the sun popped out as she walked down the aisle, or during the ceremony- it’s happened at enough of my weddings that it almost feels expected. Of course, the weather had other plans, and just as Elise started to walk down the aisle, it began to rain.

Oops.

My immediate reaction was, “no, oh no, this is not good, this is not good at all.” But as umbrellas began to unfurl, I realized how much more magical Elise and Jason’s wedding had become. My heart swooned as Jason opened an umbrella and held it not over his head, but over Elise and Victoria’s (her Maid of Honor) head. As the saying goes, actions speak louder in words, and that simple gesture said so much to me about his character and his love for Elise. And the irony was delicious and the laughter giddy when Mark Twain’s “These I Can Promise” was read aloud- the first line is “I cannot promise you a life of sunshine” and felt very on the nose in that particular moment. Touché, weather. Touché

Elise and Jason have been together for seven years, and met at a bonfire at Mount Desert Island. Elise was vacationing with her family, while Jason worked on the island. The two of them began an on-again, off-again relationship- after all, Elise was at college in Wyoming, while Jason was attending UMaine, two entirely different sides of the country. However, life finally brought her back to Maine, and the pair knew they wanted to close the physical distance between them. The rest is history.

I don’t know if I’ve ever blushed so hard as when I got a chance to look at Elise and Jason’s wedding program- under their wedding facts section, they had a list titled “Easiest Decisions.” And, under Spouse, which was number 1 (good!) Elise and Jason had written Photographer. Oh, my heart! I’ve never felt so honored to photograph a wedding before.

Here’s a few of my favorite photos from Elise and Jason’s rainy and emotional wedding day. Enjoy!
