The results are in, and I’m pleased and humbled to share that I finished 6th in the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA)’s 2018 contest! The WPJA hosts multiple contests a year, which are judged by working photojournalists, and the wedding photographer with the highest point total at the end of the year is named the WPJA Photographer of the Year. The competition was very fierce, and I’m honored to be included on this top 100 list with so many talented photographers around the world- in fact, I’m super proud to be the 2nd place photographer in North America, and 1st place photographer in Maine.!
WPJA is a favorite organization of mine, as it promotes and values documentary wedding photography. All submitted contest photos must showcase real, undirected moments at weddings. My winning photos below (save for the final two, which were awarded in a separate artistic guild portrait contest) are just that- authentic, unstaged slices of real Maine weddings that I am so happy I was invited to document.
Below are my photos that placed in the 2018 contests. Photos marked with a gold medallion were selected by all four judges, blue medallions indicate that three out of the four judges selected the photo, and purple medallion photos were selected by 2 judges.
Thank you so much to the judges for putting in their time and talent, and thank you to WPJA for highlighting really awesome wedding photojournalism! I’m so happy to be a part of this organization. AND, of course, thank you to my couples for inviting me to capture their wedding days and providing me with so many quirky, funny, loving, and emotional moments to capture. You’re the best!
