I got the news last night, and when I did, I'm not going to lie-- I squealed and almost fell out of my seat in disbelief:
Remember the PPG photography shootout I posted about last week? It was mostly an event to allow several Maine photographers to get together, play, and help one another get killer shots, but it was partly a competition to see who could create the best shots in a variety of categories. And, the cherry on the top was that the judge was Joe Buissink, wedding photographer of the rich and famous. And when I say rich and famous... just go check out his about me section of his website and check out the celebrities whose weddings he's photographed. Woah. He's kind of fancy (and his work is ridiculously awesome as well)!
I submitted on a lark, and really didn't expect anything, so imagine my total and utter excitement when I found out that good 'ole Joe picked the above image as the From The Hip Award Winner (essentially, the photojournalism award)! I describe my style as photojournalistic, so to win that award was gratifying, albeit surreal.
I guess I can call myself an award winning photographer now? Rock on! I promise I won't let it get to my head.
